Would you like to:
- Provide management and administration of the Accounting Division; control and review of accounting, financial reporting, grants compliance and internal control over the same. Provide overall direction of Accounting Division employees (including hiring, training, professional development, motivation, discipline), schedule, assign, coordinate and review Divisional work
- Ensure accounting activities are performed accurately, timely, in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and other authoritative directives
- Maintain and troubleshoot Borough financial systems – plan, test and implement new or updated financial systems software. Supervise and train staff in the use of financial systems.
- Coordinate with other departments to perform accounting and reporting financial activities of the Borough
- Stay current with authoritative changes and developments affecting accounting, financial reporting, grants compliance; research and implement directives to which the Borough is subject, select and maintain materials for the accounting library
- Provide expert accounting, financial and management advice to the CFO, Administration and Assembly; monitor economic trends and new accounting/financial concepts affecting the Borough
- Oversee year-end closing tasks, audit preparation, and preparation of financial statements and reports
- Establish, maintain and monitor Borough internal control over financial reporting and grants compliance; evaluate and streamline processes for efficiency and effectiveness
- Manage accounting and finance-related projects, formulate divisional goals, prepare and manage Division budget
- Prepare and present formal training, information sessions and other presentations; represent the Borough at meetings and hearings
- Occasionally work outside standard business hours
Ideally you have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution and passing of the AICPA Uniform CPA Examination or a CPA or former CPA of good standing
- Five years of recent professional accounting and/or financial auditing experience in a position of authority, including a minimum of two years of direct experience in government accounting/auditing
- Three years supervisory experience, preferably in a union environment. One year of management experience preferred
- Verifiable background and experience in GL and internal and external financial reporting. Knowledge of current governmental accounting (including but not limited to: governmental budget & control, grants accounting and compliance, governmental audits, capital assets, encumbrance, payroll)
- Demonstrated experience applying GAAP and federal grants laws and regulations; understanding of internal control over financial reporting and over grants accounting and reporting compliance
- Experience using integrated financial management system and maintaining automated GL
- Analytical experience with ability to perform complex analyses
- Strong demonstrated proficiency in recent versions of MS Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro. 10-key by touch proficiency
- Project management experience
- Strong written and verbal communication ability
- Current driver’s license and clean driving record
- Clean criminal background check
