Our client:  Alaska-grown, this company has been a distributor of petroleum products across Alaska for over five decades. They are seeking a highly professional Senior Accountant for their corporate office in Anchorage. Would you like to: 
  • Conduct thorough review and analysis of existing GL to identify and rectify discrepancies, errors and inconsistencies
  • Perform detailed analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Reconcile company GL accounts to ensure they are properly accounted for and supported by all necessary documentation
  • Ensure accurate closure of GL at month and year-end including necessary accruals and adjustments
  • Working with plant locations, verify accuracy of fixed asset records and update as necessary
  • Assist in preparation for annual audits
  • Collaborate with accounting department and plant personnel to improve data accuracy and streamline processes impacting the GL. Collaborate with IT to improve GL software and data entry processes for accuracy and efficiency
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting department and plant locations to reduce errors and increase efficiency
  • Ensure company accounting policies are consistently followed and provide training as required
  • Prepare and post adjusting journal entries to the GL
  • Crosstrain within the accounting department as required
  • Other duties as assigned
Ideally you have: 
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Five years of hands-on experience in an accounting or finance environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office, advanced skills in Excel
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints to comply with reporting requirements
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision to complete tasks by target deadlines
Preferred:
  • Public accounting experience and/or CPA certification
