The President is responsible for effectively and efficiently delivering the Chamber’s mission. The successful candidate for this role will be a strategic thinker with a strong skillset from analytical to personnel management expertise.
The successful individual will have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members, Board of Directors, employees, committees, governmental units, civic groups and the public. They will have strong communication skills, communicating effectively with diverse groups, and extensive knowledge of local, state and federal government operations, including the legislative process. Some weekend and after-hours work will be required, as well as limited travel.

A sample of what you can expect your workday to look like:
- Work directly with the Board Chair (-Elect) to set direction and determine annual business plan; encourage long-range strategic planning
- Develop and report on key performance indicators
- Present an annual budget proposal
- Supervise all investments and expenditures against the approved budget
- Develop and further diversify sources of non-dues revenue
- Build, train, maintain, compensate and evaluate effective staff
- Establish operational goals in accordance with the budget
- Ensure efficient management of the Anchorage Chamber office
- Develop, monitor and evaluate systems to: support membership retention and growth, the identification and recruitment process of volunteers, methods of supporting and recognizing volunteers
- Act as sole decision-making interface between committees and staff
- Advise and monitor government related committees and task forces
- Provide continuity and be or assign resources for committee chairs and taskforces (e.g. Board of Directors, Citywide Cleanup, ATHENA, Gold Pan, Chamber and municipal business)
- Develop solid understanding of municipal, state and federal issues impacting Chamber members
- Advocate for Chamber priorities where appropriate
- Focus Chamber resources for maximum political effectiveness
- Represent the Chamber at events and in the community
- Serve as media spokesperson
- Communicate to the public Chamber activities supporting the community and business environment
- Editor-in-chief for all publications, including website
Ideally you have:
- College degree in business administration or related field (marketing, finance, public administration) – Master’s Degree preferred
- Proven managerial experience and a minimum of five years of experience leading a diverse organization
- Experience with a for profit business
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
- Strong administrative and organizational abilities
- Knowledge of governmental/political process
- Creative problem solving ability
- Sales or sales management experience
- Public and media relations experience
- Events and promotions creativity and demonstrated event experience
